Chappatte Cartoon Exhibition

December 17, 2021 – March 13, 2022

Le Commun, Geneva Contemporary Art Building (Switzerland)

Expo “Chappatte – Gare aux dessins!”

Editorial cartooning entered Geneva’s contemporary art building with this unique exhibition - now turned into a 360° VR experience. On the ground floor, a series of Covid-Related cartoons leads the visitor into a dark room, where our planet is eclipsed by the dark star of coronavirus. The walls of the second floor display a firework of Chappatte’s best cartoons, some of them in giant format, reflecting the tumult of the news cycle: here, the trivial rubs shoulders with the serious, the funny with the profound. In the center of the space, large hanging canvases offer a labyrinthine path that examines the question of freedom of expression and its limits, through polemical works by 24 cartoonists from around the world, including Mix & Remix (Switzerland), Musa Kart (Turkey), Avi Katz (Israel), Ann Telnaes (United States), or Xavier Gorce (France). As special guest, the Palestinian cartoonist from Syria Hani Abbas presents some of his most striking cartoons.
